Come on baby, let’s do the twist with Chubby Checker & The Wildcats. Relive the excitement of that fateful night in 1960 when Chubby Checker revolutionized popular culture and changed the music business forever with his appearance on American Bandstand. His performance of “The Twist” was the dawn of a new era in Rock and Roll.
Best known for the iconic hit “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” Jay Siegel & The Tokens produced a number of classic songs for themselves and other artists like The Chiffons, Randy and the Rainbows and Tony Orlando. Their own hits include “Tonight I Fell in Love,” “He’s in Town” and “I Hear Trumpets Blow.”
The Elegants, still based on Staten Island, New York, were formed in 1956 by their lead singer, Vito Picone, who also co-wrote their No. l hit single “Little Star.” The record sold over 2.5 million copies world-wide in 1958 and the group was named the No. 1 R&B and the No. 1 Pop artists of the year. Picone (lead vocalist), Jimmy Moschello (baritone), Nino Amato 1st tenor), Bruce “Sonny” Copp (2nd tenor and rhythm guitarist) have been acclaimed as one of the most entertaining acts representing the wonderful era of the 50's and 60's.
